Opayo (SagePay) and Strong Customer Authentication

The first milestone in the introduction of 3D Secure 2.0 (Strong Customer Authentication and also known as PSD2) is fast approaching - it becomes mandatory within the European Economic Area (EEA) on 31st December 2020.

Inevitably, Payment Service Providers, and in particular Opayo (formerly SagePay), have increased their level of communication with their clients on this subject.

As a result, we have updated our own guidance on Strong Customer Authentication to take into account the latest information from Opayo.

Anyone who processes debit/credit card payments online should make sure that they are aware of the up-coming changes. Even if you do not export to Europe, these changes will still affect you now since the changes will be rolled out by Opayo to all of their clients to support payments from cards issued within Europe, even when being used to pay for goods to be delivered within the UK.
