Are you an IT Field Service Technician looking for a career based in the beautiful South West?

The IT solutions department of axisfirst are looking for a new member of the team to strengthen our skills in delivering best in class IT solutions to SMEs.

In a company which provides one stop IT solutions with software services, web and telephony you will become an integral part of delivering ICT to small and medium sized businesses across the U.K.

We work across many industry sectors and therefore you will be working with a range of clients, but the key priority will always be the same; delivery of excellent customer service to maintain our customer’s IT operations.

Main purpose of role:

This is a technical role providing specialist, in-depth ICT support and advice, along with project design, specification, delivery and management. Holding a valid driving license is essential as the position will involve some travel to sites throughout the UK.

Main responsibilities

Plan, implement and manage ICT projects. Deploy new and upgraded services and products to customers, in collaboration with colleagues and external parties in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Research and test new and existing ICT products and services to provide innovative and effective solutions to add to the company’s portfolio.

Assist and advise sales staff in analysing, defining, designing and presenting suitable solutions to customers at both presales and sales stages.

Document and manage ICT problems and queries raised by users accurately and in a timely manner, so that queries can be correctly assessed.

Identify, investigate and diagnose ICT problems and queries raised by users.  Provide guidance and advice to the problem whilst keeping users informed of progress.

Operate in line with Service Level Agreements and company policies, while using and adapting ITIL processes, to provide and maintain high standards of customer service and quality.

Key skills

The ability to problem solve and prioritise is essential along with excellent communication skills allowing you to create business-like and lasting relationships with clients. Contributing within the Technical Services team you will be able to identify and improve service and processes.

Experience in Installation of Structured Cabling - CAT 5, 6, 7 & 8

Cable Termination (Cat 5e/Cat 6/Fibre)

Installation and configuration of IP CCTV and Access Control

Offering remote and onsite technical support

Providing an excellent customer service at all times

Experience required in Wifi and cabling, PC repair, network equipment and printer installation.

Provide customer training of products

Liaising with the client

Provide training to colleagues when required

Can work alone or in a team

Good work ethic and a can-do attitude


GCSE Maths and English, Microsoft MCP

Preferred – BTEC, HND, A level, BSc in an ICT subject or with ICT content, Microsoft Windows Server MCSA, Microsoft

Good all-round knowledge of IT, networking principles, Microsoft Windows Server

Preferred - Excellent knowledge of IT, LAN/WAN networking, Microsoft Windows Server and workstation, Azure, Office 365, telephony

This role would suit someone who has:

At least 3 years working in an ICT technical role, with excellent knowledge of LAN/WAN, Microsoft Windows Server and Workstation.

It is expected you will hold one or more certifications or have in-depth knowledge in the following areas: Windows Server (e.g. MCSA), Office 365, being able to demonstrate networking (e.g. CCNA, Network+), project management (e.g. PRINCE2), ITIL, BTEC, HND, degree, telephony, Azure/cloud.
