Mobile Internet Usage Surpasses Desktop for First Time

Last month (October 2016), mobile usage of the Internet reached 51.3 percent surpassing that of desktop usage globally for the first time ever. This figure includes both tablet and smartphone usage and has been attributed to the rise of the emerging app market.

What is also interesting is that both the UK (44.4 percent) and USA (42 percent) are still heavily desktop orientated but since 2014 this gap is narrowing faster and faster and are both following the trend towards mobile dominance.

With the emphasis from Google on returning responsive “mobile-friendly” website results the increase in mobile usage is set to keep on rising.

Interestingly, in India mobile usage is actually much higher up around 77 percent where app development and engagement are more everyday life but understandably this is a somewhat less mature internet market.
