End of .eu Domains for UK Registrants

From January 1st 2021, you will no longer be able to register or renew .eu domain names if:

• Your business is established in the UK but not in the EU or European Economic Area or
• You live outside of the EU/EEA and are not an EU/EEA citizen

UK registrants will receive an email from the registry responsible for the .eu Top Level Domain, EURid, in October 2020 informing them that they will lose their rights to their .eu domain name as of January 1st, 2021, unless they can demonstrate their compliance with the .eu regulatory framework by updating their registration data before the end of December 2020.

As of January 1st, 2021, any UK registrant who does not meet the eligibility criteria will have their .eu domain names withdrawn.

If you have registered domains within other EU Member State's Top Level Domains (such as .fr or .de), similar eligibility restrictions may apply.

What You Should Do

If you are using .eu domain (or another country's domain) and you do not think you will be eligible to retain that domain from next year, discuss your domain requirements with us as soon as possible.

Changing your domain should not be left until the last minute because, for example, it takes time for search engines to rank your new domain to the same level as the old one and for your contacts to update their email records.
