AXIS Diplomat 2006 - Minimum hardware & system requirements

Description: Requirements for running AXIS Diplomat 2006.

1. Workstation(s)

AXIS Diplomat 2006 is designed for use with the following specification of workstation:

1.1 Workstation Operating System(s)

Microsoft Windows Vista Business

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

Please note that Microsoft Windows Vista Home, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and Microsoft Windows ME are specifically NOT supported. These are targeted by Microsoft at the home user. We do not support the use of AXIS Diplomat on these operating system. Axis First recommends Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional for business use.

1.2 Workstation Hardware

As per the manufacturer's recommendations for the operating system used plus:

 

Processor	Intel Pentium (or higher) or AMD x86 compatible.
Memory	2MB RAM per AXIS Diplomat 2006 application task running (this is in addition to memory required for operating system and any other applications in use). An AXIS Diplomat 2006 application task is any AXIS Diplomat 2006 function currently running on the workstation (the AXIS Diplomat scheduler also counts as one task).
Video	1024 x 768 resolution 17" display minimum. Higher resolutions and screen sizes are supported and strongly recommended for improved productivity. Please note that 800 x 600 and 640 x 480 resolutions which have previously been supported in earlier versions of Axis Diplomat are NOT supported.
Printers	Printer(s) supplied with Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista or Windows XP printer driver as appropriate to your server or workstation operating system environment.

2. Server(s)

AXIS Diplomat 2006 is designed for use with the following specification of server:

2.1 Server Operating System(s)

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard or Enterprise

Microsoft Windows Server Terminal Services*

Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Terminal Services*
Microsoft Windows 2000 Small Business Server

In addition, small 'peer to peer' networks (typically of between two and five workstations) may use the following operating system on the workstation acting as the AXIS Diplomat database 'server':

Microsoft Windows Vista Business

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with service pack 3 (or later)

* Axis Diplomat is specifically optimised to support terminal services and this environment delivers optimal performance over LAN, WAN and remote or mobile worker applications.

2.2 Server Hardware

As per the recommendations for the operating system used plus:

 

Processor	Intel Pentium (or higher).
Memory	1MB RAM per AXIS Diplomat 2006 application task running plus 3MB for AXIS Diplomat services (i.e. AXISFM32, AXISQM32 etc.). This is in addition to memory required for operating system and any other applications in use. An AXIS Diplomat 2006 application task is any AXIS Diplomat 2006 function currently running on the server.
Video	1024 x 768 15" colour display (with small fonts) minimum.
Disk sub-system	Peer networks (2 to 5 user): Minimum SATA drive, recommended RAID1 (mirrored pair) SATA drives.   Entry level servers (2 to 8 user): Recommended minimum RAID1 (mirrored pair) 7200rpm SATA drives.   Mid-range servers: (> 8 user): Recommended minimum RAID1 (mirrored pair) SAS drives.   Please note that the performance of the drive sub-system will dramatically influence the overall performance of your Axis Diplomat installation.
Disk Space	Between 500MB and 800MB disk space for programs (dependant on number of AXIS Diplomat packages installed) plus typical requirement of 1GB for data (2GB if using ODBC interface option).
Off-site backup device	For low volume (e.g. single user systems): USB memory stick; 3.5" 1.44MB floppy; 120MB (LS120) floppy disk; ZIP disk; Optical RW drive, CDRW or DVDRW (+ or -)   For larger systems: Optical RW drive, CDRW or DVDRW (+ or -); Tape drive (e.g. DDS DAT, AIT or LTO) with approved tape backup software (e.g. Veritas Backup Exec)   Plus: Axis First Safe Off-site Storage service (automated Axis Diplomat data backup over internet connection)
