This option provides an extra dimension to the Invoicing and, with the Sales Order Processing module, Order Maintenance routines. It allows for the requirements of firms who need to sell products cut to customer specified dimensions. Such firms would include Timber Merchants, DIY stores, and General Builders Merchants. The feature works in conjunction with the decimal places on stock quantities feature, which allows the user to choose the accuracy to which a stock item is to be recorded (from zero to four decimal places).

Setting up the Stock Records

When entering or amending a Stock (or Product) Record, a `Sold By' option is offered. The `Sold By' indicator reflects the number of dimensions used in the stock item's quantities. It may be set to Unit, Length, Area or Volume - the default value is Unit.

Invoice Entry and Sales Order Maintenance

When entering an invoice, or Sales Order where the Sales Order Processing module is in use, having selected an item from the Stock Ledger, if the `Sold By' indicator has been set to anything other than Unit, an additional button is shown allowing the operator to enter the dimensions (length, length & breadth, or length, breadth & depth).

After these prompts a quantity may still be entered so that the quantity of items of the dimensions specified may be entered.

The dimensions and quantity keyed will be multiplied together to calculate a total quantity for the item. On the invoice, a free form description line will be printed showing the dimensions.
