Alternative Stock Reference

This option allows the user to maintain an alternative stock reference of up to 30 characters. The standard 10 character stock reference must still be maintained, but AXIS will automatically generate a unique default for the standard reference if the user does not require both references.

Possible applications for this option include:

• Recording a manufacturers part number
• Using a part numbering scheme that requires more than 10 characters
• Storing Bar Codes.

When used to hold bar codes, the system immediately becomes ‘bar code capable’ when used with a suitable bar code scanner.

Bar code scanners work by generating a numeric string equivalent to the numbers represented by the bar code, as if they had been typed at the keyboard. This means that, at any point where the system allows entry of an Alternative Stock Reference, a bar code can be scanned instead.

A different application would be in the case where products sold are commonly known by another reference (for example, a manufacturers part number, or even a competitors part number). This allows orders to be entered easily, regardless of whether or not the customer has specified your own part numbers.

A full range of stock reports are available by Alternative Stock Reference, in addition to the standard reports using the primary stock reference.
