Bogus Companies House Emails

We are aware of a recent increase in the number of so-called phising emails claiming to be from Companies House. These typically have a subject similar to "Your company's accounts are due by 31/05/2017" and will have a file attached or linked.

If you receive an email like this, do not follow any links or open attachments - you should forward the email to phishing@companieshouse.gov.uk.

According to Companies House:

We’re aware of suspicious emails being sent that claim to be from Companies House. These emails haven’t been generated by us.

Some emails might have an attachment, such as a Word doc, and may ask you to enter an authorisation code. Don’t open any attachments and forward any such emails to phishing@companieshouse.gov.uk

In addition, if you use Office 365, any junk or phising emails can be forwarded to Microsoft to improve their Exchange Online Protection filtering:

  1. Create a new, blank email
  2. Address the email to junk@office365.microsoft.com (for junk email) or phish@office365.microsoft.com (for phising or scam email)
  3. Copy and paste the bogus email into the new email as an attachment
  4. Click send
